At the 2014 Partner Summit, I was reminded about the Tableau Reshaping Add-In for Excel. This is a great tool, but if your data set only changes slightly, you still have to re-run the macro on every row. I developed a formula based alternative to the macro driven re-shaper that solves the same data layout issue, but works quicker in most situations.

As I continue my training, I am reminded that knowledge sharing is an important trait of the Jedi.

This Excel file is built off a handy data set of Population Data that I typically use to demo Data Blending. To see it work, just add a new “State” to cell A53 on the Main Tab, and that row will appear (with the corresponding values) on rows 53, 105, etc. on the Tableau Ready Tab.
