Awareness, transparency, and engagement are hallmarks of a thriving community. Information – data – is what drives engagement. Traditionally, data about community issues and resources has been difficult to amass and present in an easy-to-read way. Thoughtfully-told data stories allow for more understanding, amplifying community awareness.

At Boulder Insight Group (BIG), we’ve long believed in the power of data to illuminate and drive meaningful change for individuals, organizations, and communities. We strive to create data visualizations that everyone can understand. That’s why we were delighted at the opportunity to work with The Colorado Health Foundation (CHF) for the fourth year to display their Pulse Poll data: a repository of navigable, in-depth information addressing core issues for Coloradans.

The era of obscure data and limited access is being replaced by an environment where clarity and truth are paramount. Presenting transparent and easily digestible data can invigorate communities, enabling informed advocates to rise. This dashboard beautifully demonstrates the ideal paradigm for engaged citizenry by ensuring data is transparent, public, and easy to grasp.

We invite you to explore the public 2023 Pulse Poll dashboard, as we believe it serves as a worthy template for all community organizations.

Takeaways from our CHF Collaboration:

  • Raising Awareness: Tableau-powered dashboards transform data into insights by making information engaging and easily interpretable.

  • Digestibility Over Volume: Rather than making anyone sift through a 50-page PowerPoint deck or hundreds of pages of spreadsheets, interactive dashboards can far more effectively make it simple to communicate, inform, and de-complicate large data sets.

  • Demographic Insights: The power of filtering results demographically offers granular insights into community sentiment.

The CHF Pulse Poll data reservoir is the power of informed decision-making that fosters robust community connections in acting. We think more community organizations should embark on a dynamic path: making data available and accessible to anyone who wants to see it in order to make a difference. Embracing transparency, fostering engagement, and empowering citizens and community organizations to pave the way for a brighter, more informed future.
